PROXIMITY

Over the past three years, it’s like the whole of humanity has become nothing but numbers. In the news, it’s all about the «quantities» – how many got hurt in conflicts, the covid cases, immigrants, refugees, jobless, and those taking a stand.

People are getting boiled down to thousands, millions, then percentages, until individual lives are completely lost, dissolving entirely into the digits. An individual’s life doesn’t seem to be society’s main focus anymore; we lost its’ undeniable importance. Nowadays, a person is just a part of the statistics.

Usually, I paint real people, but for this series of artworks, I had to find an artificial muse. A figure that never existed in the flesh, only in binary code. So I asked AI to create me models for these paintings.
